“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” was a phrase originated by Benjamin Franklin, and was actually about fire prevention in Philadelphia. But these days it’s more often related to medicine.
And I suppose it’s that philosophy that got me going veggie at the start of 2019, after a period when several people I knew directly, or through others, were succumbing to illnesses like diabetes, cancer, and dementia. In my younger days, I didn’t take a lot of notice of such things, and put them down to ‘old age’. But now I’m over 70, and it’s happening to people my own age, it’s really concentrated my mind!
After retirement, we all still have concerns over housing, finances, and family. But for me, overriding everything now is the importance of remaining fit and healthy, and to be able to live like this for as long as possible.
That’s how my journey started, in 2019. I started this blog in 2020 to record some of what I was doing, in the hope that it’s helpful to others.
